Nexus Ring under new cover

Scholastic Books has purchased the rights to publish copies of The Nexus Ring under a new cover. I searched on the internet, and found it in a Scholastic classroom bookclub collection of fantasy novels for grade 6, “Hero of Another World.” When I get a copy, I’ll post a picture of the cover. (The copy I have right now is easily covered by my thumb. It’s very blue-green – a lake surrounded by trees and mountains – and I think a green ring superimposed on top.)

And another one! The Nexus Ring has been nominated for the 2009 Diamond Willow, the Saskatchewan Reader’s Choice Award.

Witchdoctor

When I’m not editing the sequel to The Nexus Ring, I’ve been working on a new story, Witchdoctor. I’ve been struggling with it for months, and mostly it’s seemed like an undisciplined heap of scrappy notes. Finally it started to come together, and today, I wrote the last chapter! I have a complete manuscript! Of course, it’s just a first draft and it needs lots of work, but after all the struggle I had to pull this together I now have hope it can become a decent story.

Library reading

On May 29, 2008, I spoke about and read from Feather Brain and The Nexus Ring to 75 grade 3, 4 and 5 kids, at Nose Hill Library.The reading was organized by Canadian Family magazine as part of their Live Book Readings. The kids were amazing, with great questions and wonderful imaginations.
