Silver Birch Express
I’m off to Toronto on Monday for the Forest of Reading Festival. Feather Brain has been nominated for the Silver Birch Express, so I get to take part in the awards ceremony, sign books, give a workshop on “What If? – Where Ideas Come From”, and drive up to Uxbridge with some Toronto writers for a school event.
I’ll report back on the all the excitement when I get home.

A Crazy Dinosaur
I’ve been reading comments about Feather Brain on a school website set up for the Forest of Reading readers choice awards program in Ontario. The comments are wonderful – lots of enthusiam for the story, with comments about the bits the kids liked best. My favorite is from the boy who really liked the story, but gave it a 6/10 because, in essence, who would create a crazy dinosaur? That’s one of the things I like about writing; I can make my characters do all sorts of wacky things that I’d never do myself.

Feather Brain has been nominated for the 2009 Silver Birch Express. It’s an Ontario Reader’s Choice award, voted on by kids in grades 3 and 4 in May, 2009. There are a total of 9 awards in the Forest of Reading program, and an amazing collection of books nominated.
