The Spirit Man

Progress Report on There’s a Witchdoctor in My Grandmother’s Bathroom:

The witchdoctor has been renamed the Spirit Man. We’re still debating titles. I sent Eric Orchard photos of the Spirit Man carving, and of the newspaper photo I clipped as my image of Jane, and he’s playing with ideas. The second round of editing is finished, so it’s off my desk for another week or so. It’s starting to feel like a real book.

O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!
She chortled in her joy

Eric Orchard is doing the cover for the soon-to-be-renamed There’s a Witchdoctor In My Grandmother’s Bathroom (Orca, Fall 2010). He did Feather Brain, and I adore it. I begged for Eric again, and it’s finally organized. I’m so pleased.

I Want To Be A Thimble Witch

Eric Orchard, the artist who did the cover for Feather Brain, posts art work, mostly for his comics, almost every day on his blog. Today’s has totally charmed me.  http://ericorchard.blogspot.com.

Sound track for writing

Eric Orchard, the artist who did the wonderful cover for Feather Brain, provided a list of song links for what he listens to as he works on his current project. It’s a wonderful collection of old southern blues tunes. I thought that’s what I need for my project; a sound track. So I went looking for the right songs, and almost totally failed to find what I wanted. I’ll keep looking . . . But along the way, I bumped into an old favorite. I know it’s silly, but in my own defence, my kids loved this when they were little, I write for kids, and my brother-in-law is a fine sax player.
