Another Review

Prairie Fire has a review of Crow Boy; it’s sixth in the table of contents, click to open the PDF file. http://ojs.lib.umanitoba.ca/prairie_fire

It’s also posted on the Crow Boy page on my website – scroll to the bottom to News and Reviews. http://www.maureenbush.com/_book_crowboy/

A friend tipped me off to an Orca ad on the back cover of December’s Quill and Quire, featuring Cursed! and two other lovely Orca books. I can’t say I ever expected to be in Quill and Quire, in any form. I’m thrilled!

Crow Boy Readings

There’s a new set of readings on my website, maureenbush.com. My husband helped again, the lovely man, recording me reading short clips from Crow Boy.

We’re getting a little better at doing the recordings, as I learn where to stand (to avoid the squeaks in the floor) and how to pitch my voice and… all those things actors learn, I suppose. And as my husband becomes more experienced using Logic Pro, and filtering out all the bits we don’t want (airplanes, in breaths).

Watching a Lethbridge school podcast about their One School, One Book program helped me realize these readings might be fun in classrooms, especially for aural learners.

Canmore

I spent Saturday afternoon at Cafe Books in Canmore, Alberta, signing Crow Boy and chatting. There’s a wicked view from the front of the store – I watched storms come and go across the face of a mountain all afternoon.

I met Jocey Asnong, who works at Cafe Books, is a local artist, and was signing her wonderful self-published book, Nuptse and Lhotse in Nepal. This is a ridiculous story of two adventurous cats who climb Mount Everest, a perfect story to be coming out of Canmore. I was delighted to buy a copy to send to a small friend.

Crow Boy launch

Crow Boy is now out in the world. We launched it on Saturday at Monkeyshines, always a great place to hang out. There were lots of family members (I married into a clan), family friends and writer friends, and some people who didn’t know me but like my books. Imagine that!

There was much visiting and shopping afterwards, as guests left with bags full of books, delighted at Monkeyshines’ collection. Including, of course, signed copies of Crow Boy.

As Leonard Nimoy was in town for the Calgary Comic Expo, I’ll make a Vulcan wish for my baby. To Crow Boy: Live long and prosper.
