Hackmatack Award
It must be that time of year. Feather Brain has been nominated for the 2010 Hackmatack Award (Atlantic Canada’s Reader’s Choice Award). I think Hackmatack is a wonderful word – I’ll have to find out what it means.

OLA Best Bets
Feather Brain has been selected as one of ten OLA (Ontario Library Association) Best Bets for 2008 for children’s fiction.
I’m thrilled, and a bit intimidated. There are some big names on the list, including Kenneth Oppel, Arthur Slade, Shane Peacock, Alan Cumyn and Marie-Louise Gay. I don’t recognize the other names – it feels like 5 big names and the rest of us. I may be doing the others a disservice; I haven’t googled them yet to see what else they’ve published. I’m reading through the list – so far, I love Kenneth Oppel’s Starclimber and Annabel Lyon’s All-Season Edie.
